Arisaema triphyllum, Jack-in-the-pulpit

I think Jack-in-the-pulpit was the first plant I ever knew that was a wildflower. One great big one lived right beside the front porch of our house. We'd watch for it to come up each spring (they are always a little later than the first spring ephemerals to emerge) and my parents would tell me about seeing them growing wild in the woods. When we remodeled and enclosed the doorstep area, "Jack" was moved successfully. Now after another major remodeling, descendents of that original plant come up each spring a few feet from where the first one grew when I was little.

This photo is of one of the plants in my yard.

Arisaema: Greek aris, a kind of arum, and haema for "blood"
triphyllum: Latin for "three-leaved"
